BALCANES
Balcanes return after years of near silence with'Gloria Eterna', an album in which dirt, minimalism, brutality — and whatever it is that Balcanes distill — have reached their purest form. Meticulously crafted, perhaps even obsessively, over a period of studio work that today feels almost unheard of, the pieces shaping each of its nine tracks may not be unfamiliar, but we have never heard them combined like this before. They fit together so seamlessly that, through their mud, they give life to something that should essentially define contemporary hard rock.
Violent post-punk from the gut, announcing disaster with the irony of those who grew strong through defeat. Fury mixed with laughter, hardcore punk, drone, ruined electronics, black metal, and detours that take them from ambient passages to a crooner-style ballad. All of it while maintaining the triumph of sounding like themselves — beyond trends and conventions — proving that ROCK can still exist today. Looking to the past, of course, but doing so without nostalgia and building a bridge firmly into the present.
