“Déjame entrar a tu espacio de coworking que la lluvia ya me encharca el alma“.
(“Let me enter your coworking space, for the rain is already flooding my soul.”)
Cuchillo de Fuego move in musical parameters close to hardcore in terms of its rabid guitar base with punk breath and noise / post-hardcore texture (Melvins, Jesus Lizard …). But in the case of the Pontevedra quartet, their proposal is condensed into themes of shorter duration, sharp, hard and dense such as flint and wrapped in incendiary, lucid and also hilarious lyrics written on sandpaper.
From the heat of that authentic temple of Galician underground that is Liceo Mutante, they became known in 2014 with “Triple España” released under their own label Amawisca, to position themselves at the top of the Spanish punk scene (understood as all musical proposal that, alien to trends, is based on doing what one feels like and with the available means). In 2017 they released “Megavedra”, a glorious celebration of all the virtues that make the band great and unique, crowned by the amazing (in every way) video of “Nocturno” directed by none other than Isaac Godfrey (Ugandan filmmaker linked to WakaliWood, a kind of local Hollywood as a tireless producer of absolutely insane and addictive action films) in a translation of the daily life of the members of Cuchillo themselves (coffee shop included) to the suburbs of Kampala. Impossible, delusional and at the same time strangely coherent with the universe of the band, capable of mixing, sometimes in the same song, corrosive humor, vignettes of sharp customary irony, existential reflections and harsh pure irreverent fun almost dada.
Cuchillo de Fuego are in the essence of Humo. Burned by the fire of its edge, we are smoke. All together. Total identification.
