CUCHILLO DE FUEGO

Cuchillo de Fuego operate within musical parameters close to hardcore, built on a furious punk backbone and a raw noise / post-hardcore texture (think Melvins, The Jesus Lizard..). In the case of the Pontevedra quartet, their approach is distilled into short-form songs — sharp, heavy and dense as flint — wrapped in incendiary lyrics that are at once sharp-witted, lucid and often wildly funny,

They first emerged in 2014 through the underground scene around Liceo Mutante, releasing their debut LP “Triple España” on their own label, Amawisca. From the outset, they positioned themselves at the forefront of the Spanish punk landscape — guided by a do-it-yourself ethos and absolute creative freedom. In 2017 they released their second album, “Megavedra”, a powerful statement that captured everything that makes the band unique, crowned by the astonishing video for “Nocturno.” Directed by filmmaker Isaac Godfrey — connected to Wakaliwood, Uganda’s grassroots action-film movement — the video transplants everyday scenes from the band’s own life into the streets of Kampala. Absurd, surreal and yet strangely coherent with their universe, it reflects their ability to merge corrosive humour, sharp social observation, existential reflection and pure irreverent fun — almost bordering on the absurd.
