While the world was looking the other way, Cabi, Julio and Joserto gathered in the most mysterious corners of Granada and, in 2023, gave life to Iannis Anisakis — a rhythmic and savage feast that splashes analogue distortion over synthetic sound. It feels like a voodoo doll stitched together with silence and harsh noise, woven with elements of industrial electronics, distortion and no-wave.

Coming from diverse backgrounds — the drone, noise and improvisation of Les Catapultes de Nepomuk on one side, and the refined percussion of Joserto Rosales (Ramper) on the other — Iannis Anisakis build their music using instruments crafted by Julio himself from materials such as springs or contact microphones.

Proud to perform all their music live on stage with no backing tracks, Iannis Anisakis say that rather than designing sounds, they design instruments — or entire sets of instruments — to play and improvise with. Through noise — what they call “the abyss” — they create an overwhelming effect, embracing friction at full intensity and contrasting it with pop or dance elements. The result erupts into music that resists easy definition, while openly referencing artists such as The Body, Xiu Xiu, Model/Actriz, Suuns, This Heat, Rooie Waas, SOPHIE, Crystal Castles, Wolf Eyes, Black Midi or Meridian Brothers.

Iannis Anisakis have released several singles, available on all platforms, and will soon release their debut album with Humo Internacional.
