The collaboration between Lucía Gea and Yuliya Protasova is one of those unexpected pairings that come together almost by chance, yet yield truly valuable results. On one side we find Gea, a Valencian DJ and producer, a regular behind the decks at venues such as Meteoro, Spook, and Specka—an eclectic selector with a taste for Central European sounds and a background in rock music. On the other is Protasova, a Ukrainian pianist with classical training and experience as a film score composer. Their joint project, crystallized in the EP How to Name Colours, explores the tensions between techno and contemporary classical music, between dancefloors and concert halls, between the cinematic and the spiritual, through subtle and deeply emotive instrumental pieces.
