SOMADAMANTINA
Cristina Rodríguez (Madrid, 1992), known artistically as Somadamantina, is an artist, singer‑songwriter, writer, and poet widely recognized as the first woman to make trap music in Spain and one of the early pioneers of the trap scene in Spanish‑speaking countries. Her role as a precursor is discussed in the philosopher Ernesto Castro’s book Trap, filosofía millennial para la crisis en España, which looks at trap as a cultural phenomenon in contemporary Spanish society. She began sharing her poetry and songs on MySpace at just 13 years old back in 2005. Her lyrics, influenced by texts as varied as Plato’s The Immortality of the Soul, Oriana Fallaci’s Un Hombre, and The Diary of Anne Frank, are anything but casual or lightweight.
In 2012 she released her first work, Diamante, via Facebook and SoundCloud. With no formal musical training or management, she continued to carve out her own path. Over the following years she released music under various aliases (Somadamantina, Slim Kawasaki, Original Brillantes), including the album Glamour and singles such as “Purple Mermelada”, “Azúcar Glass”, “Hamburguesa de 1€” and “Codeina & Sprite”—some released on the La Vendición label and featuring artists like Yung Beef or Ms Nina, though many of these early tracks have since vanished from the internet. After experiencing a psychotic episode in 2017, Somadamantina re‑emerged with a more vulnerable style in singles like “Hermoso,” producing work that feels more mature, contemporary, and suggestive of a future focused on avant‑garde expression. A couple of years later she released the LP Magnanimity, which sold out its physical edition and helped solidify her reputation, with Primavera Sound later dubbing her a “urban legend.”
