Some bands seem to arrive from a galaxy entirely detached from their time and surroundings. Ultramega are the perfect example. Formed by veterans of illustrious Barcelona hardcore bands, Ultramega play punk as if each and every member were suffering a full-blown epileptic seizure on stage. You could attempt to define them by referencing obscure ’90s noise rock sub-scenes and highlighting their unmistakable sense of humour. But any description would fall short without mentioning those cognitively derailed guitars, the basslines with heart conditions, the drums afflicted with Tourette’s, and a voice battling severe speech-therapy issues.
