VIALDELA

Ivana Castañón, also known as Vialdela, is a pianist, doctoral candidate, and award-winning playwright, as well as a multifaceted artist who moves fluidly through photography, audiovisual work, and poetry. In her musical expression, her solo career had so far produced two EPs (‘Albada’ and ‘Yermo’, both on Snap! Clap! Club) exploring neoclassical, minimalist, and lyrical territories, to which Humo Internacional is now delighted to add El Color. Accompanied by viola and cello, the composer continues in this new release her sonic exploration of intimacy and loss.

In an era of endless feeds and choreographed TikToks, it is rare to find an artist who conveys the depth and serenity of Vialdela. With the poise granted by uncompromising honesty and sensitivity expressed in every detail, El Color stops time—and gives it back to us. One of the most precious gifts, simultaneously seemingly unattainable yet within reach, lies hidden in the seven tracks that make up this album.

The stillness that envelops Vialdela’s world resonates in the spaces between sounds, quietly invoking forces of nature that descend with the subtle power of a snowflake. After recording Yermo in December 2020 at Estudios Brazil with Javi Ortiz, Ivana recorded this new EP in 2021 with Rafael Martínez at Grabaciones de Campo. The work captures all the warmth and color of a total artistic commitment, transcending trends, numbers, and algorithms.
