Pablo Und Destruktion—born Pablo García in 1984—has carved out a life that runs counter to the grain. One could focus on specific yet telling details: his work as a stage actor, or his role as a sharp chronicler of our times, made explicit in his debut novel La bestia colmena (2018). One could highlight his unwavering commitment to self-management, an anarchist in practice, which has led him on endless tours across Europe. One could speak of performances in unlikely settings, of how he has revived the figure of the troubadour, of the singer-songwriter as a catalyst of the zeitgeist. And still, even with all this, any attempt to define him would fall short.

While the beginnings of his career can be traced to the early days of that short-lived movement once dubbed freak folk, Pablo Und Destruktion quickly grew far beyond any label. By the time he released his second album, the essential Sangrín (2014), he had already become a multifaceted figure—an artist who fused romanticism and fury, a seventies classicism, an industrial edge, and a fiercely contemporary vision. From there, he has taken giant strides, revealing a rare combination of ambition and creative honesty, whether in the heartfelt romanticism of Vigorexia emocional (2015), the dramatic weight of Predación (2017), or the sparse, intimate restraint of Futuros valores (2020) and Ultramonte (2022). Unafraid to ride his own contradictions, always excessive, few artists in Spain have pushed their creative ambition so far.

Pablo Und Destruktion’s songs reveal a creator who transcends his influences: he may draw from French chanson, German industrial rock, or Asturian folk traditions; he may approach music as a scholar of folklore—but above all, he is a restless artist in constant battle against the predictable and the stereotypical. An artist who endures against the odds in an often hostile environment—someone you may agree with more or less, but who always has something worth hearing. And there are very few artists like that.
